It protects against lynching, yes. If the person with the most votes is protected, the lynch passes to the person with the next most votes. Therefore, lynch protection can always be countered by simply having scum have both the highest and second highest number of votes.

Can we can either mega bw one person, actually have wagons to go for the next day, but be susceptible to lynch immunity. Agreed, but keep in mind that the Magic MacGuffin ability is a day ability, so they could have waited to use it until they knew one of their guys was getting lynched.
But if he is lynch immune due to this ability, it can't happen again. So that's a plus.

Since any nonvoters vote for themselves, there's currently a whole host of people that are ahead of mango, and as shown in the other game, when the lynch falls to someone who had no other votes, it opens it back up the everyone. At least that's what I got from what happened in Game 2.
Mango also ASKED Shrike to vote him, but you missed that apparently.
